Healthy Eating on a Budget

by Coach Katey Leave a Comment

Eating in a way that supports good health doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, healthy food is often less expensive than unhealthy food. Even if you’re on a budget, you can still follow an extremely healthy diet. There’s no reason to resort to unhealthy food just because you’re not flush with cash.

Use these techniques to eat well without spending a lot of money:

Have a positive opinion of frugality.

Many people resent being frugal or are embarrassed by it. Believing that frugality is a good thing makes sticking to a tight budget much easier.
It’s just food. There’s no reason to overspend on something that only stays with you for 24 hours anyway.
Be serious about your health. Healthy food can be delicious. Make your health a true priority and eating healthier becomes a real possibility.

Make a healthy food list.

When you’re on a budget, the right foods for your list are both healthy and inexpensive. They must also be foods that you love to eat.
There’s no reason to purchase foods that you won’t eat, no matter how cheap and nutritious they might be.
Allow the entire family to help make the list and include their preferences too.

Generic foods.

Generic foods can be just as healthy and tasty as the name brands. Store brands are much less expensive, too. A can of green beans is still just green beans, regardless of which company is putting it in the can.

Coupons.

It can be a little annoying to be waiting behind that person with all the coupons, but don’t let that stop you from using coupons yourself. You can spend the money you save on something else.

Look for sales.

Check out the store’s app or website before you leave the house. There’s always something on sale. Maybe one of those things will happen to be something tasty and nutritious.

Fruits and vegetables.

There are a few fruits and vegetables that can be expensive, but most are quite economical. Most vegetables are low in calories and quite filling. Fruit can be a nice substitute for dessert.

Waste less.

Americans throw out a lot of food. There are a lot of numbers thrown around from 1 pound of food per day to 106 pounds per year. Regardless of the correct number, it’s higher than it should be or needs to be. Remember – you pay for that food, even if it ends up in the trash!

A good way to save money is to only buy what you need and to eat everything you prepare.
-Does your family love pizza? Instead of ordering a large, you could order a medium and make a salad.
-Prepare brown rice instead of white.
-Use a sweetener other than cane sugar.
-Make a baked potato instead of French fries.
-Drink more water. Water is the least expensive beverage around. It’s also one of the healthiest. Drinking more water will boost your health and save you money at the same time.
-Consume healthy bulk foods. A bulk food in this context is something that is inexpensive and can serve as a major source of calories. For example, rice, oats, and beans are bulk foods. Bulk foods are very inexpensive and can be nutritious, too.

Remember, a couple of potatoes cost less than a bag of chips, and they’re healthier, too. The next time you do your grocery shopping, see how little you can spend while feeding your family nutritious food. Make a game out of it.

The kids might complain at first, but they’ll happily eat when they get hungry, and they’ll get used to the new norm. You can enhance your family’s health while saving money.

Setting a good foundation for optimal health

Setting a good foundation

doTERRA Lifelong Vitality Pack® Microplex VMz®

Microplex VMz provides a lot of benefits over other conventional multivitamins found in the supplement industry. One of the primary issues with nutritional supplements is bioavailability—the fraction of the ingested amount that is absorbed and reaches systematic circulation. Microplex VMz includes a patented glycoprotein matrix, which introduces the food-derived vitamins and minerals to a culture of yeast or lactobacillus so that it is more recognized in the digestive process. The vitamins and minerals contained in Microplex VMz are efficiently used within the body, instead of being excreted through the urine.*

The trend today in dietary supplements is megavitamins, or products that offer synthetic vitamins and minerals in doses far exceeding recommended guidelines. This trend is interesting because a higher dosage does not generally offer more benefits; many vitamins and minerals are even toxic at high levels, and may simply result in your body having to work harder to expel the excess.

• Provides 22 essential vitamins and minerals to support normal growth, function, and maintenance of cells*

• Fights free radicals with the antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E*

• Supports healthy metabolism and cellular energy*

• Supports bone health with calcium, magnesium, zinc, and vitamin D*

• Supports healthy immune function*

• Supports healthy digestion*

doTERRA Lifelong Vitality Pack® xEO Mega®

The health benefits of supplementing with omega-3 fatty acids are well known, but in xEO Mega doTERRA has developed the most advanced essential oil omega complex on the market, with an even broader range of benefits. Like with all dietary supplements, bioavailability is key.

There are many different unsaturated fatty acids from countless sources, all with their own distinct set of characteristics. One daily dose of xEO Mega provides 900 milligrams of pure, micro-filtered marine lipids with 300 mg of EPA and 300 mg of DHA—the two distinct types of long-chain omega-3s that research has consistently shown to be the most beneficial and the most lacking in the conventional diet.

1. Many supplements focus on benefitting just one area of the body, however, xEO Mega is designed to have far-reaching effects for several vital areas of the human body. Essential fatty acids are important nutritional building blocks for the proper function of many body systems. xEO Mega promotes healthy cardiovascular, nervous, and immune system function.*

2. As we age, things like healthy joints, range of mobility, and simply the ease of getting around become more important. Luckily, xEO Mega supports joint function and comfort.* Numerous studies have shown that omega-3s are important for maintaining joint health and mobility, and may help increase blood flow during exercise.* No matter our age, being able to get around easily and comfortably is something we all want to experience.

3. Sustaining healthy function of our immune system can be very important, particularly during seasons when threats to our immunity are high. xEO Mega provides important modulating nutrients for healthy immune function.* Experimental research has shown that omega-3 EFAs may actually enhance the function of white blood cells.

doTERRA Lifelong Vitality Pack Alpha CRS®

Cells are the basic building block of all life. Healthy tissues, organs, and, ultimately, healthy organisms depend on cellular reproduction and specialized function, energy production, and timely cell death when cells are not functioning at optimal levels. As we age, cellular function can deteriorate and we gradually begin to experience decreased energy and performance.

Additionally, cellular stressors, including oxidative stress to cellular DNA and other key cell structures, challenge cellular heath. Providing cells with essential nutrients and metabolic factors of cellular energy and protecting our cells from toxic stressors supports healthy cell function, vitality, and wellness. *

• Supports cellular energy by supporting healthy mitochondria and by supplying metabolic factors of energy production*

• Supports healthy cellular immune function*

• Supports mental clarity and brain function*

14 Ways to Cleanse your Lymphatic System

by Coach Katey Leave a Comment

cleansing your lymphatic system

Cleansing your Lymphatic System

Your lymphatic system, part of your immune system, has many functions such as protecting your body from invaders. A clogged lymphatic system can cause infections so ideally we want to make sure we are cleansing our lymphatic system often.

What is the purpose of the Lymphatic System?

Your lymphatic system has many functions. Its key functions include:

  • Maintains fluid levels in your body: tThe lymphatic system collects excess fluid that drains from cells and tissue throughout your body and returns it to your bloodstream, which is then recirculated through your body.
  • Absorbs fats from the digestive tract: Lymph includes fluids from your intestines that contain fats and proteins and transports it back to your bloodstream.
  • Protects your body against foreign invaders: The lymphatic system is part of the immune system. It produces and releases lymphocytes (white blood cells) and other immune cells that monitor and then destroy the foreign invaders — such as bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi — that may enter your body.
  • Transports and removes waste products and abnormal cells from the lymph.

14 Ways to Cleanse the Lymphatic System

1. Hydrate: Dehydration is a common cause of lymph congestion. Lymph
becomes thicker and less mobile when you are dehydrated, but flows well
when hydrated. Add 1 drop of citrus essential oil to a full glass of pure filtered
water.

2. Deep Breathing – breathing for even just 5-10 repetitions (or up to 10 minutes
a day) will oxygenate the blood, circulate the lymph especially around the liver,
and provide many other benefits. If possible, do this exercise outdoors in fresh
air.

3. Exercise – regular exercise is one of the easiest ways to promote a healthy
lymphatic system. It stimulates blood circulation and helps to transport oxygen
to the tissues and cells in the body.

4. Stress Management – managing stress are necessary to maintain a well
functioning lymphatic system.

5. Sauna – (if you have access) can promote detoxification, better circulation and
skin purification thereby supporting a better lymphatic system.

6. Dry Skin Brushing: Promotes lymphatic drainage of toxic waste. Start a habit
of dry skin brushing a few minutes before your shower or bathe using a natural
bristle brush and 1 drop of your favourite essential oil.

7. Massage – the use of strokes and pressure to muscles, tissues and organs
during massage help stimulate the circulatory system and expel toxins to the
circulatory system for elimination.

8. Hydrotherapy – refers to the use of water (hot tubs, cold showers, ice packs,
hot springs, water massage, etc.). It promotes detoxification and circulation.

9. Hot/Cold Showers – Lymphatic vessels contract when exposed to cold, and
dilate in response to heat. A hot and cold shower uses the properties of water
temperature and pressure to move stagnant lymphatic fluid, increase
circulation, boost immune function and metabolism.

10. Trampoline/Rebounder – one of the most efficient ways to reduce lymphatic
congestion, stimulate lymph flow, and exercise every cell in the body. Gentle
up and down bouncing turbo charges lymph function.

11. Stretch/Yoga – Stretching and yoga poses are especially effective for moving
lymph.

12. Whole Foods – Consuming processed foods, junk food, fast foods, sugary
drinks, unhealthy fats, refined flour and sugar can cause inflammation and
create lymphatic system congestion. Eat more fruits and vegetables, especially
green vegetables.

13. Detox baths – Epsom salts have been known to stimulate lymph circulation in
the body due to their high levels of Magnesium.

14. Essential Oils – may help stimulate our white blood cells to clean up microbes
and toxins in the body. This makes the job of the lymphatic system easier as it
helps eliminate excess waste.

Essential Oils for Cleansing your Lymphatic System

by Coach Katey Leave a Comment

Cleansing your Lymphatic system should be done regularly as part of your self care routine. Cleansing your system basically gets rid of toxic “sludge” that builds up in your body.

Regular aromatherapy treatments in conjunction with exercise and a healthy diet can assist the body’s natural eliminatory response by stimulating the liver, lungs and lymphatic system, kidneys, bowels, and sweat glands.

As always, there are many different essential oils that can be used. Those with depurative (blood-cleansing), diuretic (increases the production and secretion of urine) and stimulant properties are the most helpful.

There are several essential oils that possess both depurative and diuretic properties which makes them particularly useful for supporting the body’s natural detox process.

These include Fennel, Grapefruit, Juniper berry and Lemon.

Other useful diuretic oils are Cypress, Geranium, Tangerine, Patchouli and Rosemary.

Spice oils such as Black Pepper, Clove, Cardamon, Cinnamon and Ginger can help to stimulate the circulation and flow of lymph.

Fennel also helps stimulate the circulatory system.

Grapefruit and Wild Orange have a stimulant effect on both the digestive and lymphatic system.

Cypress and Rosemary are also hepatic, which means they help stimulate and aid liver function.

Geranium supports the body’s natural ability to rid itself of unwanted substances.

Cilantro supports the body’s natural process of eliminating toxins.
